Intellivision Lives! comes to DS | RETRO GAMING

A pre-Nintendo world is pretty foreign to most young people today. But those youngsters might just get a dose of the early '80s, with the arrival of Intellivision Lives! to the Nintendo DS this September, to coincide with Intellivision's 30th anniversary. The console was a hit back then, owned by Mattel Electronics - but didn't stand a chance against the less-capable, but way cheaper Atari system.

Back five years ago, Intellivision Lives! was formed to license and bring back some of the console's signature games (developed by Realtime Associates) for Xbox, PS2 and GameCube. The release got some niche blogger buzz, and good reviews. Now, 60 old-school games are getting the modern day handheld treatment with the DS, and we're pretty stoked about that.

An Intellivision app is also currently available for iPhone, as well, sponsored by VH1 Classic. The app is a portal to 6 paid versions of popular games (Chip Shot Golf, Night Stalker, Skiing, Thin Ice, Thunder Castle) - also on iPad.

(I remember how quickly I dropped the Intellivision in exchange for my first Nintendo NES…Funny how some 2+ decades later, I'm aching longingly for those blocky graphics…)
